Georgia v Ireland FIFA has notified the Georgian Football Federation and the Football Association of Ireland that the Group 8 World Cup qualifier match scheduled to take place in Tbilisi will now take place in Mainz (Bruchweg Stadium), Germany on September 6 (Kick off 18.00 local time).

Georgia v Ireland update from FAI FIFA is now awaiting a reply from the Georgian FA regarding the selection of a neutral venue for the forthcoming Group 8 World Cup qualifier game against Republic of Ireland on 6 September. In a change to its previous statement that the match will take place in a neutral venue, FIFA is now advising that it has asked the Georgian Football Federation to name an alternative venue for this match by 26 August 2008 in order to be prepared, should the situation in Georgia still require a neutral venue. taken from www.fai.ie.

Updated statement from FAI re Georgia qualifier
Further to discussions with the Department of Foreign Affairs, who are currently advising against non essential travel to Georgia, the FAI has today written to FIFA, UEFA and the Georgian FA, to indicate that its preferred option would be to find an alternative venue on the same date for the Group 8 World Cup qualifier against Georgia. The World Cup Group 8 qualifying match between the Republic of Ireland and Georgia is not scheduled to take place until Saturday, September 6. In the meantime, we will continue to liaise with the Department of Foreign Affairs, FIFA, UEFA and the Georgian Football Association about today’s reports of unrest and will keep fans informed of any updates and advice from these bodies on www.fai.ie , as they become available.
